EDWARD AUSTEN (LATER KNIGHT.) 
Born October 7th 1768. [In fact he was born and privately baptized on 7 October 1767. – Ed.]
Baptized at Deane.
Adopted, while a boy, by his cousin Thomas Knight, to whose estates of Godmersham Park, Kent and Chawton, Hampshire, he succeeded.
Partly educated in Germany (spending a year in Dresden) and in Italy.
High Sheriff 1801.
Took the name and arms of Knight in 1812, quartering the Knight arms with those of Austen.
Married, December 27th 1791, Elizabeth, third daughter of Sir Brook Bridges, Baronet, of Goodneston, Kent. Elizabeth, born May 23rd 1773, died October 10th 1808.
Edward Knight died November 19th 1852, having had issue:
Fanny Catherine Austen, later Knight. 
Born January 23rd 1793.
Married, in 1820, Sir Edward Knatchbull, 9th Baronet, of Mersham Hatch, Kent.
